Who does this suit?
We welcome students from all degree disciplines and backgrounds, not just those who’ve studied finance-related degrees, or those who have knowledge of banking.
It takes a broad range of skills to be successful at HSBC. We’re looking forward to seeing the mix of skills you’ve learned so far, and hearing about the unique perspective that you’ll bring to our teams. We’ll help you learn everything else.
To join us on this programme, you’ll need to be:
- Keen to learn about optimising returns for clients and how banks support customers in their treasury and working capital management.
- Interested in the evolving trends in transaction banking and curious about innovation in financial technology.
- A proactive self-starter, eager to learn and quick to do so whenever the opportunity arises.
- A team player with a collaborative attitude who builds trusted relationships and is driven by results.
- Familiar with PowerPoint and able to use Excel to manage and analyse data, and eager to improve your skills in these and other software and systems.
What you will learn
We’ll help you develop the technical skills most relevant to your role. We’ll also provide plenty of opportunities to advance your non-technical skills, like relationship management and collaboration, that will help you move your career forward successfully.
During your time on the programme, you’ll:
- Be given an induction to banking, followed by sessions to help you understand the fundamentals of corporate treasury, working capital management, and cash management.
- Receive training on soft skills such as communication, networking, time and stakeholder management, and personal branding.
- Learn about Transaction Banking and the regulatory frameworks around it, as well as HSBC’s product suites for Liquidity and Investments, Payments, and Cards and develop a client-centric approach.
- See how technology is transforming treasury management through AI, Distributed Ledger Technology, API, Cloud Services, and Robotic Process Automation.
- Receive training specific to the team you’re placed in. For example, in Payments you’ll learn about the SWIFT network and how banks communicate with one another.
- Have plenty of other opportunities to develop your behavioural, cognitive and technical skills, plus people to support you along the way, ensuring that you are well prepared for the future.
The products you’ll learn about are:
Liquidity and Investments products – these enable clients to optimise balance sheets, maximise returns and streamline treasury processes. Some examples are Demand and Term Deposits, Notional Pooling and Cash Concentration, Liquidity Management Dashboard, and Cashflow Forecasting.
Payments – these enable the collection and disbursement of funds for clients, domestically and across borders, and provide other value-adding services like Real-Time Payments, Virtual Accounts and Omni Channel collections.
Cards – these enhance the visibility and control of client’s expenditures, such as with Business and Purchasing Cards.
We encourage you to apply for the program as soon as possible. We recruit on a rolling basis, and applications may fill before the deadline.
