For this position, we are seeking an exceedingly ambitious apprentice to be trained for the role of Industrial Boiler Technician. Ideal candidates are eager to gain education and develop practical skills, participate in training on and off the jobsite, observe all safety codes, complete assessments, and carry out as assigned.

Essential Functions
  • Communicate with Plant, Production and Maintenance management as well as maintenance personnel on Utility program operations
  • Conduct daily walk through of Utility program equipment to verify equipment is operating efficiently, correctly and safely
  • Perform low water cutout tests to ensure boiler shutdown will occur if an unsafe water level exists
  • Chemically treat the boilers with an inhibitor to avoid scale and corrosion
  • Fill water softener brine tank with water softener salt daily
  • Obtain samples and test Utility waters for hardness, chemical levels, pH and conductivity, chemically correct as required
  • Obtain and record pressures and temperatures of de-aeration and feedwater tank
  • Collect samples and check for oxygen levels in the de-aeration and feedwater tank, remove oxygen and carbon dioxide as necessary
  • Check and record chiller water and oil pressure from control panel
  • Repair the chemical pumps as needed to maintain the proper chemical levels in the boilers, cooling towers and chiller
  • Manage all levels of chemical usage and maintain inventory
  • Visually inspect the black fill in cooling tower for bacteria and slime
  • Accomplish microbiological control in cooling towers with the use of chlorine, biocide and dispersant, pumps, shock tank feeder, and MB Dip Slides.
  • Assist general maintenance as requested
  • Collect samples and test cooling tower water for bacteria, yeast and fungi, record results and make chemical adjustments as needed to control infections
  • Grease cooling tower pumps as needed
  • Attend monthly safety meetings

Minimum Qualifications

  • Basic knowledge of general machinery maintenance
  • A desire and willingness to learn the Utility program.
  • Communication, analytical and documentation skills are a must.
  • Physical ability to perform the functions of the position

The employee may be required to lift up to 30 lbs. While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts. The employee will be required to sit, stand, walk, climb and bend. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Specific hearing abilities are required.

Required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):

Hardhat and protective eyewear required within and around USEP processing facilities. Hearing protection required in areas where levels exceed 85 db. Uniform provided by White Energy. Steel toe leather boots mandatory. Additional PPE required when handling hazardous chemicals.
