Kopp Glass, a Pittsburgh-based manufacturer of high-performance, custom glass products, is seeking to expand its team of highly skilled glassmakers. No prior glassmaking experience is required; this is a unique opportunity to start on the shop floor in an entry level position and, where ability is demonstrated, have the potential to enter our apprenticeship program to gain the training, experience, and skills required to become a highly skilled glassmaker.
Primary Responsibilities: Typical job duties could include the following, but are not limited to:
- Assists in the production of glass products that are made from molten glass using mold equipment.
- Prepares materials and equipment for glass production.
- Supports the shop by transporting hot glass on the shop floor.
- Uses all glassmaking tools with the proper techniques.
- Effectively communicates with others on shop.
- Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations.
- Adheres to Kopp's Quality Policies and Quality Management process and procedures.
- Responsible for following written and verbal instructions.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: - High School or General Education Diploma (GED)
- 1-3 years' experience in a manufacturing environment preferred but not required; this position does not involve forklift operation, warehousing tasks, or assembly lines.
- Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Must have good eye-hand coordination.
- Ability to learn and perform additional departmental duties upon training; must be able to get up to speed quickly.
Physical Requirements: - Must be able to PUSH/ PULL equipment requiring up to 100 lbs. in force to move.
- Stand - Approximately 95% of the workday
- Must be able to LIFT materials weighing up to 50 lbs.; must be able to BEND,TWIST and TURN frequently.
- Must be physically able to manipulate equipment and molds.
- Must be able to withstand extremely hot and cold temperatures in the work environment.
