Operations Internship (OI)

Overview
The Operations (Ops) Intern will assist in various aspects of the day-to-day operations at VALIANT, providing support to the Project Manager (PM) and Field Team(s). This position is designed for a college student studying in a relevant field (such as Construction Management, Engineering, or Architecture) looking for hands-on, real-world experience during off semesters. The role will primarily focus on learning, assisting with administrative tasks, and providing support in the Office, Field, and Preconstruction Department to gain insight into the construction project lifecycle.
Responsibilities
Operations Path
- Field Support: Assist project teams with site logistics, quality control, and documentation tasks.
- Observe and learn the flow of operations on a construction site.
- Help monitor project timelines and coordinate with field staff to ensure tasks are progressing on schedule.
- Document Control & Administration: Assist with managing and organizing project documentation.
- Help maintain logs for RFIs (Request for Information), submittals, and change orders.
- Organize and file project documents (plans, contracts, schedules, etc.).
- Support the preparation of meeting agendas and minutes.
- Schedule Coordination: Support the development and maintenance of project schedules.
- Assist the project team in tracking progress and ensuring deadlines are met.
- Attend project meetings and assist in documenting key decisions and action items (meeting minutes).
- Communication: Support communication between the field teams and office personnel.
- Help distribute updates and reports to internal team members and external partners.
- Assist with coordinating meetings and ensuring items are tracked.
- Project Support: Provide general assistance to Project Engineers (PEs), Superintendents (Supers)m and PMs.
- Assist with Procurement Process.
- Assist with quality control and safety audits.
- Learning & Development: Actively engage in learning opportunities to build knowledge of project management, construction process, and the industry
- Attend training sessions and on-site meetings to observe how projects are managed (internals, SSVs, OACs, Scorecard, etc.).
- Seek feedback and mentorship from team members to improve skills.
Preconstruction Path - Bid Coordination & Solicitation: Assist the Preconstruction (Precon) team in coordinating bid packages, preparing solicitation documents, and tracking bid responses.
- Assist with gathering required documentation and materials from subcontractors.
- Preconstruction Documents: Help prepare and maintain logs for bids, submittals, and other Precon-related documentation.
Required Education and Experience - Enrolled in a 4-year degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, , or related field.
- Available for an internship during off-semesters (summer or winter break).
- Basic understanding of construction processes and terminology.
- Willingness to learn and grow in both Operational and Preconstruction aspects of project management.
Physical Demands and Work Environment - Primarily office-based with occasional visits to various jobsites.
- Ability to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods.
- May be required to lift or carry materials up to 25 pounds during site visits.
- May be required to work in varying weather conditions when visiting jobsites.
- Continually required to use hand/finger dexterity for tasks such as data entry or document review.
Compensation & Duration - This is a paid internship position
- Internship duration typically lasts 3-6 months, with flexible start and end dates and potential for continued engagement/full-time hire upon graduation.
