VDOT works with a number of veteran service organizations to implement the program, which attempts to locate internships near the participant’s home and rehabilitation facility. Internship placement depends on aptitudes and interests, and could be in areas such as planning, finance, project management, security, procurement, quality control, information systems, engineering, civil rights, and human resources. Veterans will be provided proper training and leadership. Veterans will be provided reasonable accommodations.

During the twelve month tenure in the VDOT Veterans Internship Program Coordinator will mentor and prepare the veterans on issues such as first impressions, interviewing skills and resume updating all the while keeping in continuous contact with the veteran while working with his/her supervisor(s).
