First Merchants Bank is seeking a Veteran Apprentice - HR Shared Services Associate to join our team! At First Merchants, we value the service, patriotism, and bravery of our military members. This role is a one-year apprenticeship program providing tailored training for Veterans interested in pursuing a career in Human Resources. In this role the individual will perform a variety of administrative tasks in support of all functions of the Human Resources department, to include recruitment, onboarding, benefits administration, employee relations, and policy administration.

Open to all ranks and branches of U.S. veterans, must be off Active Duty at time of hire, traditional Guard and Reserve status are eligible. Honorable or medical discharge.

As part of this role the individual will:

  • Participate in a one-year Apprenticeship Program.
  • Have current Veteran employee mentor.
  • Receive specialized training and development.
  • Perform general administrative support for the human resources department.
  • Schedule and conduct exit conversations with employees separating from the bank.
  • Assist the payroll team with new hire and transfer process.
  • Administrator programs related to HR function.
  • Maintain employee records and contribute to the development and implementation of HR policies and procedures.
  • Support employee inquiries regarding human resources policies and programs.

In order to be successful in this position, we require the following:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • A minimum of three (3) years of related office administration or military experience.
  • Veteran of the U.S. Military with Honorable or Medical Discharge.

The following would be a plus:

  • Previous Human Resources or administrative experience
  • Excel, Word and Adobe Acrobat (PDF) experience
  • Customer service experience
